In many cases, replacing your heating system can be a smarter long-term investment that brings improved comfort and savings. Replacement may be the better option if:
Repairs are often the ideal solution for newer systems or minor issues. Here are a few situations when repair may be the right choice:
Minor, Isolated Issues: If the problem is limited to one or two components, like a thermostat malfunction or ignition problem, a repair can be a quick, cost-effective solution.
Our team can assess your heating issue and provide a transparent quote, helping you understand both the immediate benefits and potential long-term considerations for your system.
When you need a new heater in Houston, selecting the right one for your specific needs is crucial. After all, a new heating system is a significant investment! Our heating installation specialists will help you determine what’s best for your home so you can feel confident in your purchase. When assisting you in selecting a new heater, we consider important factors such as:
We analyze all these factors before recommending systems from reputable manufacturers. We only install equipment we would consider for
our own homes, ensuring you receive a quality system that delivers reliable comfort for years to come.
At Luke’s Plumbing & Air Conditioning, we ensure your heating installation process is smooth, professional, and worry-free. Here’s how we take care of every aspect of your new heating system:
Consultation and Selection We start with a thorough home evaluation to understand your heating needs and preferences. Our experts help you select the perfect system based on your home’s size, layout, insulation quality, and your budget.
Professional Installation Our skilled technicians adhere to all manufacturer specifications during installation, ensuring your new system operates at peak efficiency and qualifies for warranty protection. We handle all necessary permits and follow local building codes.
System Testing Once installed, we conduct comprehensive testing to verify your system functions flawlessly. We inspect every component to ensure safety, efficiency, and proper operation before considering the job complete.
Owner Education Before we leave, our team provides a complete walkthrough of your new heating system’s operation, maintenance requirements, and programmable features. We answer all your questions to ensure you’re comfortable managing your new system.
Regular maintenance is essential for keeping your new heating system running efficiently and reliably in Houston’s climate. With annual tune-ups, your heater will remain in peak condition, minimizing unexpected breakdowns and extending its lifespan. Routine inspections can catch minor issues before they become costly repairs, and a well-maintained system operates more efficiently, saving you money on energy bills even during our mild winters.
Consider replacement if your system is over 15 years old, requires frequent repairs, produces uneven heating, or has caused steadily increasing energy bills despite regular maintenance. In Houston’s climate, heating systems often last longer than in colder regions, but efficiency declines over time. Luke’s Plumbing & Air Conditioning offers free evaluations to help you determine if replacement makes more financial sense than continued repairs, considering both short-term costs and long-term energy savings.
Modern heating systems provide several benefits tailored to Houston’s unique climate: variable-speed technology that efficiently handles our mild winters without energy waste, improved humidity control during heating season, quieter operation, smart thermostat compatibility for optimized performance, and significant energy savings (typically 20-30% compared to 15+ year-old systems). New systems also offer better air filtration options and more consistent temperature maintenance throughout your home, eliminating the cold spots common with aging equipment.
We install a complete range of heating systems suited to Houston’s climate, including energy-efficient heat pumps (ideal for our mild winters and providing cooling in summer), gas furnaces, electric furnaces, ductless mini-split systems, and dual-fuel systems. For homes without existing ductwork, we specialize in minimally invasive installations of ductless systems that provide efficient zone-controlled heating. Our experts will recommend the best option based on your home’s construction, your comfort preferences, and energy efficiency goals.
Proper sizing is critical for optimal performance and efficiency. Too large, and your system wastes energy through short cycling; too small, and it struggles to maintain comfort during cold fronts. Luke’s performs a comprehensive Manual J load calculation—analyzing your home’s square footage, ceiling height, insulation levels, window efficiency, air infiltration rates, and Houston’s climate data. This scientific approach ensures you get exactly the right sized system for your specific home, avoiding the common pitfalls of rule-of-thumb estimates that lead to inefficient operation.
Most standard heating installations can be completed in a single day (4-8 hours), though complex systems or those requiring significant modifications to ductwork or electrical systems may take 2-3 days. When replacing an existing system with a similar type, installations typically proceed quickly. At Luke’s Plumbing & Air Conditioning, we provide specific timeline estimates before beginning work, schedule installations at your convenience, and work efficiently to minimize disruption to your home and routine.
Yes! Modern heating systems are significantly more efficient than those manufactured even 10-15 years ago. In Houston’s climate, you could see heating cost reductions of 20-30% with a properly sized, high-efficiency system. This is particularly true if your current system is oversized (common in Houston where heating loads are relatively low), runs frequently, or shows signs of age-related inefficiency. Luke’s helps you select systems with appropriate AFUE or HSPF ratings to maximize your energy savings while meeting your comfort requirements.
